early harvest melons
Actually, I don't really want to grows melons, I can get them really cheap here. However, what I buy is not always sweet. One of my missus friend is a keen gardener, she recommended her to grow our own melons, not every melons but the melon from special hybrid melons which are disease resistant and early harvest. That sound good Right? I gave it a go. I'm impressed by the results the fruits are sugary sweet, verry easy to grow and ready for harvest within 12-16 weeks. I wish Sis Ann and Dang get the same results. Hey, I forget to tell you guys what melons are they, they are Rock melon and Water melon.
Eventhough I impress with the rock melons taste, I still want my melons to be bigger, each of my melons weight around 700 gm which is small. This season I've got 5 fruits out off two plants . That was not bad, if I have less fruits I might have bigger fruits instead.
Water melons which I grow are a small fruit type of water melon. I don't know , whether they are sweet or not, haven't tried them yet.
I had picked one of the rock melons before while it was still green yet it was fragrant . I halfed and tasted it. It was crispy and sweet. this morning I picked them when they are yellow to get a better sweetness. Now inside my house is filled with Rock melon aroma.
I'm not sure about using seeds from the fruits to grow for the next season plants. Someone says that they will not come out the same. Anyway, I leave heap of bought seeds that are enough for me to grow for the next two years.
The packages I have shown, are imported from the UK, Members who live in EU, would not be hard to find them. In Japan, you guy have a better one to grow anyway. Members in Thailand, I know that two of the web members grow them, I can wait to see their result. After all, I have been showing off my melons, I want the people who get the same seeds, have the same result!!!
See you next blog!

That is right, Slowlife, I
That is right, Slowlife, I also not always eat expensive fruits from Thailand, sometimes I buy them to get their seeds to try to grow them by myself. I rather spend my money on the fruits that are cheap here, they are fresher and cheaper. Only when, I really miss Thai fruits, I buy.

Sis,Jaow. Try to grow some.
Sis,Jaow. Try to grow some. They don't like much water only one a day that is enough. they also like full sun and sandy soil. Really easy to grow with a bit of cow manure.

Wow! I want to taste
Wow! I want to taste that sweet and crispy melon. You and your missus are really good gardener. Really appreciate.I got that Rock melon seeds once from this web member, i believe it from the US (Khun Suchaya) but dare not to plant that kind of fruit in the south because of the very hot weather. After reading from your blog, it means that i misunderstood, right? It can grow in hot weather too, like Thai melon.

Sis, Boston.Give it a go. You
Sis, Boston.Give it a go. You will need full sun, well drain soil. Don't over watering them. You can plant them direct into the position. or sow them into a tray then tranplant. You space 30 cm per plant and 50 cm per row. When it dry and hot you can sow them. They don't like hot and soaking wet, they dont like verry cold either. I can grow them only in Summer.
Once the plants has settled. you just wait and enjoy the result. However, heirloom seeds might have problems with some deceases. Anyway, it is worth trying!!

Aunt, Lek. They like full sun
Aunt, Lek. They like full sun and well drain soil. This melon I don't need to do hand pollinating too. My seeds are hybrid, then it is much easier to grow.
